What is Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled Steel (HRP&O)
In order to remove impurities and other undesirable elements, such as stains and rust, that have formed on the surface of hot-rolled steel through exposure to oxygen, a process known as pickling is used. HRPO steel is hot-rolled steel that has been allowed to be treated with an acid solution – a process known as pickling – before being used. Scaling happens when steel is submerged in tanks of hydrochloric acid, and it is a chemical process. Scaling is the process of removing these contaminants from the water.
After the acid has been washed away and the steel has been allowed to dry, a thin coating of oil is sprayed to prevent rusting from occurring. Pickling and oiling the steel increases its durability, malleability, and paintability while also making it easier to paint.
